The husband of a former model and television actress has been arrested for allegedly mentally and physically torturing his wife, the police said here today.

Sanjay Sharma (40), husband of former model Rashmi Sharma (35), was arrested on December 20 following her complaint, the police said.

The couple had married in 2003 at Delhi and were staying in suburban Oshiwara after which Sanjay, a software animator by profession, went to Indonesia's Jakarta in 2004 after he got a job with a company there.

Rashmi also accompanied him there for two months after which she returned.

She lodged the complaint when Sanjay was in India on December 20. He was arrested from the international airport here while trying to leave the country, police said.

Sanjay has been remanded to police custody till December 30.
