The condition of Imad, son of actor Nasseruddin Shah, who sustained multiple injuries after falling from a suburban train, was stable, doctors attending him said.

The doctors further said multiple surgeries had to be performed in order to improve his condition.

"Imad's foot was crushed during the accident and today we operated on it in order restore it," Dr Sanjay Agarwala, head of the orthopaedic department at Hinduja Hospital, told PTI.

Other fractures he had sustained had been fixed and his condition was improving, he added.

Doctors have also performed an operation to help him breathe better and despite initial fears that there was the possibilty of gangrene developing in his arm, his condition has improved, Agarwala said.

Imad, a student of St Xaviers College, had fallen off a local train on November 23 and had sustained multiple fractures.

He was admitted in a critical condition to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hinduja Hospital.
