Documentary film maker Anand Patwardhan's controversial documentary, which was embroiled in a long court battle will finally be screened on Doordarshan on October 8, in keeping with a Supreme Court order.
The state broadcaster had refused to screen the film, "The Father, Son and Holy War", but after a eleven year long battle, on August 25 this year, the Supreme Court upheld the Bombay High Court order to telecast it without any cuts and within eight weeks of the judgement.
It will now be telecast at 10 am on October 8 on Doordarshan's national network.
The film has won several international and national awards. It is a two-hour documentary that was shot from the mid 80's to the mid 90's and covers a wide spectrum of events, from the 'Sati' in Deorala in 1987 to the Bombay riots and subsequent bomb blasts in 1992-1993.
Welcoming the decision, Patwardhan said for film makers like him, it was the faith in democracy and the judiciary that helped in their "fight against the system".
